Summary

This edition reflects on women’s leadership, from Mary Ward’s vision four centuries ago to the women leading change across the Mary Ward International network today.

At the heart of this edition is the belief that leadership is not defined by title or position. It is found in listening, courage, perseverance, collaboration, and the willingness to act for justice. These qualities shaped Mary Ward’s own life and continue to guide women who are building stronger, fairer communities around the world.

Inside this edition, you will read about Rajmuni, a barefoot lawyer in Darjeeling, India, whose commitment to justice is helping tea plantation workers understand and defend their rights. Living within the same community she serves, Rajmuni has seen the effects of poor working conditions, low wages, family violence, sexual abuse, and trafficking risks. Through the Legal Aid program, she now helps others access support, navigate legal systems, and speak up against injustice.

You will also read how Loreto schools across Australia marked International Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements of students, alumnae, and women leaders who reflect Mary Ward’s belief that women would do much.

This edition shares updates from projects supporting women-led change in Australia, Albania, India, and Timor-Leste. At the Piriwa Enterprise Hub in Balgo, First Nations women are developing business skills and creating new income opportunities through upcycled products. In Albania, work with the Filipino community is helping address exploitation and trafficking risks. In West Bengal, a new training facility will support year-round education and leadership programs for women.

In Timor-Leste, the women of Hamelale and HAFUCO show what becomes possible when local women lead. Their cooperatives are creating income, sharing knowledge, strengthening health, and supporting community development.

Together, these stories remind us that investing in women creates change far beyond the individual. When women are supported to lead, communities become stronger, safer, and more just.
