This edition reflects on the power of education to transform not only one life, but families, communities, and future generations.
Across the global Mary Ward International network, education takes many forms. It may be formal schooling, vocational training, life skills, health education, child rights awareness, or the confidence that comes from being seen, supported, and believed in. In every form, education helps people recognise their dignity, understand their rights, and imagine new possibilities for the future.
Inside this edition, you will read stories from Zambia, where education is strengthening both schools and health systems. Through teacher training in Lukulu and Mitete, young people are returning to serve their own communities as qualified educators. At Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery, new dormitories, facilities, and transport are helping young women access tertiary training and prepare for careers in healthcare.
This edition also reflects on the legacy of Loreto Vietnam, where 25 years of education initiatives supported more than 100,000 children. From STEM learning and bicycles for students to safe sanitation facilities and health education, Loreto Vietnam helped open pathways for children to learn, grow, and participate more fully in their communities.
In Huaycán, Peru, the Child Rights Community Education Project is helping children understand their identity, self-worth, rights, and safety, while supporting families and teachers to recognise and respond to violence. In India’s brickfields, open-air schools continue to give children of migrant workers access to learning, meals, health awareness, and a pathway beyond child labour.
You will also read about the commitment of Loreto students in Australia, whose fundraising and advocacy support Mary Ward International projects across the world.
Together, these stories remind us that education is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen communities. It builds confidence, opens opportunity, protects dignity, and helps children, young people, and women shape futures that once seemed out of reach.
