The Sr Elizabeth Donnan ibvm Scholarship Fund

In Partnership with the Loreto Sisters

Honouring a Legacy of Compassion & Commitment to Education

Mary Ward International and the Loreto Sisters have established the Sr Elizabeth Donnan ibvm Scholarship Fund, to honour the woman who dedicated her life to service, education, and the care of others.

This Scholarship Fund is inspired by the many students, alumni, colleagues, and families whose lives were touched by Sr Elizabeth’s unwavering compassion, support, and belief in the power of equitable access to education.

Continuing Sr Elizabeth’s Mission

Working hand-in-hand with rural communities in Zambia, Sr Elizabeth worked with community-run schools, constructed permanent classrooms, and supported young people to pursue higher education. Her advocacy ensured that even in the most challenging conditions, children and young adults could access learning, and with it, hope for a better future.

Sr Elizabeth played a vital role at Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery, not only as a leader and educator but as a fierce advocate for students from remote and disadvantaged communities. She personally oversaw the Nursing College’s student bursary program and worked tirelessly to ensure that no student was denied a chance to pursue education because of financial hardship.

Why Your Support Matters

By supporting the Sr Elizabeth Donnan ibvm Scholarship Fund, you will ensure that Sr Elizabeth’s legacy continues to transform lives. Your generosity will allow students facing financial hardship to access essential nursing education by covering tuition fees, training costs, travel, and accommodation.

The fund will initially support students enrolled in the Diploma of Nursing, with plans to expand as new programs are introduced at the Nursing College. Your support will ensure future generations of nurses can serve their communities with skill, compassion, and purpose, just as Sr Elizabeth did throughout her life.
“I am the first girl in my community to go on to further studies. I will be a role model to encourage other girls that they can also make it in life.”
Jacqueline, a current scholarship holder

Mary Ward International is the Australian and international development agency of the Loreto Sisters. As part of a global Loreto network spanning 23 countries, we are united in our mission to drive sustainable, community-led progress where the need is greatest.

Inspired by Mary Ward, founder of the Loreto Sisters, we are committed to working for a just world where women share leadership, children thrive, and communities live in harmony with each other and the earth.

We are dedicated to enabling women and children to receive the education, skills and support they need to transform their lives and the world around them. Helping these women reach their potential is one of the single best investments we can make to end poverty.
“When a student is awarded a scholarship, their demeanour is transformed from one carrying an impossible burden to a person who is free to laugh and enjoy life.”
