Leave a Gift in Your Will

A Will is one of the most personal documents you will ever write.

It is a way to care for the people you love, and to honour the values that have shaped your life. For some, it is also a way to continue supporting the causes and communities they hold close.

By including Mary Ward International in your Will, you can help ensure Mary Ward’s vision continues for future generations.

A Lasting Legacy of Education & Justice

Mary Ward believed that faith should be lived with courage, freedom, and purpose.

A gift in your Will carries that same spirit forward. It can help support the ongoing work of Loreto Sisters and local partners as they walk with women, children, and communities facing poverty, exclusion, and injustice.

Your gift may one day help a child remain in school, a woman gain practical skills, a family access life-changing support, or a community strengthen its own future.

However large or small, a legacy gift is an act of trust in what is still to come.

How To Leave a Gift in Your Will

Including Mary Ward International in your Will can be straightforward. We recommend speaking with a solicitor or a trusted legal adviser to ensure your wishes are clearly recorded.

Step 1: Write Or Update Your Will

If you already have a Will, you can add Mary Ward International by way of a codicil. This is a formal addition to your existing Will.

If you are preparing a new Will, you can include Mary Ward International in that process.

We encourage you to provide for family and loved ones first, then consider whether you would like to include a charitable gift.

Step 2: Choose The Type of Gift

There are several ways to leave a gift in your Will.

  • Residual Gift: A share of what remains of your estate after costs, debts, and gifts to loved ones have been provided for.
  • Percentage Gift: A nominated percentage of your estate.
  • Pecuniary Gift: A fixed amount of money.
  • Specific Asset: Property, shares, bonds, or another item of value.

Residual and percentage gifts are often the most beneficial, as they can retain their value over time.

Step 3: Suggested Wording

You may like to share this wording with your solicitor when preparing or updating your Will:

“I give, free of all duties or taxes, [the sum of $____ or ____% or the rest and residue] of my estate (‘the bequest’) to Mary Ward International Australia Limited, ABN 15 117 502 477, (or its successor). It is my preference that the bequest be used for general purposes and direct that the receipt of the authorised officer of Mary Ward International Australia will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.”

You may also like to add the following wording to ensure your charitable giving intent is honoured:

“If at the date of my death any of the above charities have changed their name, merged with another entity or ceased to exist, then their bequest will not fail but shall be paid to that charitable organisation which my executor considers I most intend to benefit.”

Step 4: Share Your Wishes

You may wish to speak with your family or loved ones about your decision, so they understand the values and intentions behind your gift.

You are also welcome to let Mary Ward International know if you have included a gift in your Will. This is entirely your choice, and any conversation with our team will be treated with care and confidentiality.

Letting us know allows us to thank you personally and keep you connected to the work your future gift may support.
