Education creates opportunity.
Across the communities in which Mary Ward International works, learning can be disrupted by poverty, gender inequality, migration, and geographic isolation.
Through targeted education programs, Mary Ward International helps women and children continue their schooling, build skills, and create pathways to greater independence.
In many of the communities where Mary Ward International works, education is not guaranteed.
Girls may leave school early due to financial pressure, family responsibilities, or the distance they must travel to attend. Some children also lack the documentation required to enrol in school. Children from migrant families may miss months of learning, while young people who have fallen behind can struggle to keep up. Women who missed out on education may have fewer pathways to secure work, stability, and independence.
Without education, opportunities narrow, and cycles of disadvantage persist.
When girls are educated, they are more likely to earn an income, make informed decisions, and contribute to stronger, healthier communities. Education builds confidence, strengthens agency, and helps women and young people actively participate in shaping their futures.

Education is one of the most effective ways to break cycles of disadvantage, yet many women and children still face barriers to accessing learning pathways.
Mary Ward International supports practical, community-led solutions that strengthen both access to education and long-term outcomes.
In some communities, this means helping children stay in school. In others, it means creating pathways for those who have missed out, providing scholarships, supporting learning centres, offering vocational training, or working alongside local leaders to develop sustainable support systems.
A school meal can improve concentration. An after-school program can provide safety and consistency. A scholarship can remove a financial barrier. Vocational training can open pathways to meaningful work.
The impact reaches beyond the classroom, strengthening opportunities for individuals, families, and communities.
