This edition reflects on education as one of the most enduring expressions of Mary Ward’s mission. Across the global Mary Ward International network, education continues to open pathways to dignity, confidence, justice, and opportunity.
It is also the first edition of Sustain since the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Congregation of Jesus came together as one congregation. This marks a new chapter in the Mary Ward story, while continuing the same mission of walking alongside women, children, and communities through learning, advocacy, and opportunity.
Inside this edition, you will find stories from communities where education is helping to shape new possibilities. In India’s brickfields, children are continuing to learn despite seasonal migration, and women are gaining literacy skills long denied to them. In Huaycán, Peru, children are learning about their rights, safety, and dignity through the Children Without Fear Project. In Vietnam, the Vinh Loc Learning Support Program is helping children access the foundations they need to enter formal schooling.
You will also read about the Collective Voices Project in Darjeeling, where career guidance is helping young women explore higher education and meaningful pathways for the future, and the new Indigenous Education Scholarship Fund, developed in partnership with the Loreto Sisters and the Aurora Education Foundation.

This edition also connects with Mary Ward International’s current appeal, supporting children like Ananya through the Brickfield Schools Program. For children whose education is disrupted by migration and hardship, consistent learning can offer stability, confidence, and a pathway beyond seasonal labour.
