This edition reflects on what it means to be an agent of change in a world shaped by inequality, uncertainty, and deep need.
Across the global Mary Ward International network, change begins with listening. It begins with communities naming the challenges they face, and with partners walking alongside them as they work towards solutions grounded in dignity, justice, and local leadership.
In Kenya, this edition shares the powerful work of Sr Ephigenia Gachiri ibvm and her team as they support communities to end female genital mutilation. Their work is not imposed from outside. It is built through trust, conversation, education, and the development of alternative rites of passage that honour culture while protecting girls and women from harm.
You will also read about the commitment of Loreto students across Australia, whose fundraising, advocacy, and community action continue to support Mary Ward International projects around the world. Guided by the Mary Ward Schools’ Compass, students are encouraged to think and act justly, seek truth, and become agents of change in their own communities.
In Lukulu, Zambia, the opening of Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery marks a hopeful step towards better healthcare, education, and employment opportunities in one of the country’s most remote regions. By training local young people, the college is helping build a future where skilled health workers can serve their own communities.
This edition also shares updates from Mary Ward International projects in India, Peru, South Sudan, Kenya, Australia, Timor-Leste, and Zambia, including urgent COVID-19 responses that provided medical care, oxygen support, food, and essential supplies to communities under pressure.
Together, these stories remind us that change is not always sudden or simple. It is built through courage, trust, education, and shared commitment, one community at a time.
