Summary

This edition reflects on resilience as a living thread through the Mary Ward story, from Mary Ward’s courage four centuries ago to the women leading change across the global Mary Ward International network today.

Resilience is more than endurance. It is faith in action, the courage to continue when the path is uncertain, and the strength to build something new from hardship. In this edition, resilience is seen in women who are gaining skills, rebuilding confidence, protecting others, and creating futures shaped by dignity and opportunity.

Inside this edition, you will read stories from Kibera, Kenya, where women are gaining practical skills in carpentry, painting, business, and entrepreneurship. Through the Street MBA and livelihoods programs, women like Grace and Josephine are stepping into industries where women have often been excluded, earning income, supporting their children, and imagining futures once thought beyond reach.

In Zambia, Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery continues to grow stronger through new kitchen and dining facilities, solar-powered irrigation, and the establishment of the Sr Elizabeth Donnan ibvm Scholarship Fund. These developments honour a lasting commitment to education and help prepare local nurses to serve communities in Western Zambia.

This edition also shares a snapshot of the difference supporters have made in 2025, with updates from Vietnam, Timor-Leste, India, South Sudan, Peru, Zambia, Kenya, and Australia. Across each project, education, health, advocacy, and economic empowerment are helping communities take practical steps towards safer, stronger futures.

In Balgo, First Nations women from the Piriwa Enterprise Hub share their designs and cultural stories at KAFTA, showing how creativity, enterprise, and cultural knowledge can strengthen identity and opportunity.

In West Bengal, India, survivors of trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence are becoming peer mentors, advocates, and community leaders. Their courage is helping others find safety, support, and the confidence to reclaim their lives.

This edition also marks a new chapter through Mary Ward International’s first CJ-led project in Rădăuți, Romania, where children are receiving education, meals, counselling, practical care, and a safe place to grow.

Together, these stories remind us that resilience is not carried alone. It is strengthened through community, opportunity, and the shared commitment to build a more just world.
